Would you like to send your favorite missionary a Christmas gift but have no idea what to send?
Do shipping costs hold you back from sending actual packages?
Below you will find several ideas to assist you in knowing what to give your favorite missionary for Christmas. But not just for Christmas. This guide can be useful for every occasion!
You will find ideas for gifts that can be given digitally as well as gifts to be mailed. There are ideas for what to buy for children and a small section that instructs you on ideas for what not to send.
Before you mail a gift to a missionary, be sure to check with them ahead of time about any import taxes they may need to pay on shipped items.
The Ultimate Missionary Gift Guide
One more thing to bear in mind, before you ship or order a gift for a missionary is this:
Do not send money or checks. Not only is there a chance that these could be stolen during customs checks, it is never advisable to send cash money at all.
In many countries checks cannot be cashed as in the States so a check would be worthless or cost more to cash it than it is worth.
Due to region codes, before you send DVDs make sure your special missionary is able to watch DVDs on his computer or has an unlocked DVD player.
1. Gift Cards
Check ahead of time with the missionary about whether or not they are able to use iTunes, Pandora, or Amazon Instant Video and MP3s. Some countries are unable to access these online digital services. Even still, if your favorite missionary has a Nook or Kindle, a gift card would be a wonderful blessing to them!

Photoshop, Microsoft Office and other similar programs are often of great need to missionaries and yet the price often prevents them from purchasing these very useful programs. Receiving them for Christmas will be a special blessing to them and their ministry!
Pack ingredients for Christmas goodies: Marshmallows, a small jar of corn syrup, chocolate chips, sprinkles, special edition Hershey’s Kisses, Christmas scented Yankee votives, and some special ornaments to make this Christmas a special treat, with some flavors from home.
Does your special missionary enjoy a certain type of food that they cannot get on the field? Consider packing a box with non-perishable ingredients and spices.
Tea / Coffee Lover
Pack a box with various teas or coffees from home. For a coffee lover, you can also include mini jars of Torani syrups or powdered creamers. For tea lovers, include some loose tea and an infuser. Note: to save space, you can empty the powdered creamers and lose tea into Ziplock bags.
Craft or Hobby
Does your special missionary enjoy quilting or fishing? Perhaps they enjoy other hobbies, such as jewelry making, scrapbooking or puzzles. Consider packing a box with hobby supplies. To save space with puzzles, simply empty the puzzle pieces into a large ziplock bag and cut the picture of the puzzle out and include it in package.
Don’t forget children! Ideas for children’s gifts are
Magazines (such as Clubhouse from Focus on the Family)
Play dough (stored in zip lock bags to conserve space)
Glitter glue and more.
