All my life I have heard about the last days.
My dad has been studying end time prophecy for over 50 years, so I have heard sermons on the last days, end time prophecy and Revelation literally all my life.
I remember as a kid shivering with anticipation about what would happen in the last days.
I remember listening to prophecies by David Wilkerson, reading his books, and being amazed at how God speaks to men about events that are happening right now.
But somehow, hearing about what would happen and seeing what’s happening in our world right now just don’t feel the same.
It’s one thing to hear about events leading up to God’s ultimate victory over Satan and his evil agenda, but quite another to live day after day watching Christianity be mocked, our freedoms slip away, and our children’s future look so grim.
I’ll admit, one morning I even prayed, “Lord, I know this is your will, but I don’t want to live this right now!”
And yet, we can’t be like Peter right now.
We can’t take our eyes off of Jesus and focus on the waters raging around us right now. We can’t be “oh ye of little faith”. We must do our level best to build and expand our faith (That is coming up in next week’s podcast!!) if we are going to withstand the ever-increasing pressure of what’s to come.
And here’s the thing, dear sister.
God hasn’t left us stranded and wondering about what’s ahead.
He wanted us to be prepared, armed, ready for spiritual battle. All throughout Scripture he has given us landmarks, signs, and even details, about what’s to come.
The book of Revelation opens with this:
Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written in it; for the time is near.
Revelation 1:3
No other book in the Bible offers a specific promise to those who read that book.
I truly believe that we are living right in the middle of the last days. And while I know that there are those who will reply that we have heard that statement all our lives (I know I certainly have), if you look at recent events, it’s very hard not to draw that conclusion.
Even in recent months, I have had people reply to me that every generation has said they’re living in the last days.
But if we allow this passive and complacent response to keep us from really looking at what’s going on, we will be caught unprepared for Jesus’ second coming.
The enemy will sneak up on us with temptation and we will be unarmed and unprepared for battle.
We cannot afford to live as though what we’re seeing going on in our world right now is not significant to end times prophecy and the last days.
For the first time since the early Old Testament, the entire world has come under the influence of one system.
The United Nations.
At no other time in history, other than the Tower of Babel, have we seen the entire world connected as we are connected right now – and that is incredibly significant.
If you’ve ever wondered how one person can rise up and influence the world population to take a mark on their hand or forehead, I think we’ve now seen how this is possible.
One organization influenced the entire world into lockdown.
It influenced the every country’s decision for mask mandates and social distancing,
It has influenced travel regulations and the possibility of limiting world travel to those with vaccine passports.
It has influenced every country to offer their citizens mass vaccinations.
The entire world is connected under one influence, so we recognize the possibility of one person rising up as a world dictator.
But there is so many more signs that God has given us as mile-markers to determine the closeness of Christ’s return.
Now, we know that we cannot know the day nor the hour. But we can discern the times. And clearly, Jesus wanted us to do so when he said:
Whenever you see a cloud rising out of the west, immediately you say, ‘A shower is coming’; and so it is. And when you see the south wind blow, you say, ‘There will be hot weather’; and there is. Hypocrites! You can discern the face of the sky and of the earth, but how is it you do not discern this time?
Luke 12:54-56
God clearly wants us to look at what is going on around us within the context of the signs that He has given us in Scripture to discern the times we are living in.
And this has been on my heart for the past year.
In recent months, I have been doing a chapter-by-chapter study through the book of Revelation that has both fascinating and convicting.
This study is a sequel to an earlier study I did on viewing Biblical end time’s prophecy through the lens of current events.
Both studies are led by Dr. F. Dean Hackett – who is also my dad and blogger at Foundational.
He has been studying end times prophecy, prophetic books, and current events for over 50 years, and has file cabinets crammed with his research.
I would like to invite you to join me in doing part one of this study.
If you would be interested in joining me, I would like to invite you to join any of the 4 groups below. Though most of you know I’m not active on Facebook any longer, I did want to create a group in a space where I know the majority of my readers are to make it easier for you.
The study will begin May 3.
Here is where you can sign up to get more information:
Thank you for offering this study as an email option. Maybe my mom will study along. I sent her the article. She does zero social media accounts.
That would be wonderful!! I am looking forward to it.
