If there is one thing I have found that Christians today have in common it is a struggle to find a good church home.

I can’t tell you how many times someone has confided in me that they are either struggling to find a church or feel a need to change churches for whatever reason: be it that their church has no children’s / teen program for their kids or the pastor doesn’t preach a solid Word; perhaps there is no fellowship in their church or they feel like second-class members.

Sometimes the church is legitimately the issue, but sometimes the issue is us.

I grew up a pastor’s kid and there were times when people would grow upset with my dad for reasons that were truly puzzling; times when they were in the hospital and became offended when he didn’t visit….but had no one called to let him know. And it seemed that no explanation was sufficient to resolve the offense.

And yet, there were times when I saw shepherds that were true hirelings – “fake shepherds”, for those who don’t know what a hireling is. In other words, pastors who do not authentically pastor; but take on that role for selfish reasons: money, power, position, a desire for control.

But there are those who are perhaps in healthy church families who experience – as every family does – conflict…or just awkward moments.

How do we react in these moments?

Our response in these times, whether they be awkwardness, conflict, a pastor who is a bully, or a situation in which we are offended, is very important.

No matter what the end result will be, we will never go wrong when we choose to pray.

One practice that I’m working on improving in my own prayer life is praying scripture. The Word of God has great power; but somehow I think that if we would choose to pair prayer up with scripture and actually pray scripture in situations and circumstances of our lives that it would be like a shot of nitro to our prayers!

Praying the Word of God is an exciting and effective way to pray!

In this 30 Day Prayer Challenge for the Church you will find a Bible verse or passage for each day that will teach how to pray, encourage, edify, and uplift the body of Christ.

To use this workbook, you will read the given verse or passage from the day and write out an observation about that verse or passage.

Then you will write out a prayer to the Lord, using the verse or passage for that day as a guide.

Using God’s Word as a guide for our prayers is such a powerful tool.

It is also a powerful weapon, combining the sword of the Spirit and the weapon of prayer into one atomic weapon against the enemy who seeks to destroy us.
