We are living in a very difficult time in human history.

There is so much deception and delusion; so much violence and destruction; so much fear and suspicion of one another.

Sadly, even the church is caught up in all of this.

The church has not only be infiltrated with deception and delusion, it is spreading deception: political correctness, tolerance, and preaching another Christ.

There are those churches who are siding with, and even fueling, Black Lives Matter despite it’s Marxist origins, anarchy, and violent protests.

So many churches closed, opting for online or tailgate services, despite what the Bible repeatedly says about gathering together.

It is time for the church to rise up in the power and might of the Holy Spirit, with boldness, to bring hope to the world.

I truly believe, the church’s strange and baffling response to what the world is facing right now is the result of the absence of the Holy Spirit, the work of the Holy Spirit, the gifts of the Spirit, and teaching about the evidence of the Holy Spirit – namely speaking in tongues – in our churches today.

The Bible clearly teaches that the Holy Spirit is for all.

Not just for the early church – it did not die out with the Apostles. It is for us today!

And the Holy Spirit gives boldness and power, it enables ordinary people to do extraordinary tasks.

But the Holy Spirit has been excluded from churches today and we see the evidence in the church’s overall response to this world crisis.

10 Bible Verses About the Holy Spirit and Speaking in Tongues

In the verses below, you may see bold text.

This is where I’ve emphasized parts of these verses that I believe we need to examine and meditate on.

1. Acts 2:38-39 – The promise

“Then Peter said to them, ‘Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.‘”

2. Luke 11:13 – The promise again

“If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!”

3. Acts 1:8 – The promise once again

“But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

4. Luke 24:49 – Command to wait for the promise (remember, this is not just for the Apostles, but for “all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God shall call.”)

“Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.”

5. Mark 16:17 – A sign of those who believe

“And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues

6. Acts 2:4 – Tongues are the evidence of the baptism of the Holy Spirit

“And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.”

7. 1 Corinthians 13:1 – Speaking in tongues is not limited only to speaking other languages, but is a spiritual language as well; as the Holy Spirit speaks through us, either to speak an earthly language we have not learned or to intercede according to the will of the Father by speaking in a heavenly language.

“Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal.”

8. Romans 8:26 – Further evidence that the Holy Spirit prays through us when we don’t know what to pray for through our human understanding.

“Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.”

9. 1 Corinthians 13:8 – if prophecies and knowledge have not yet ceased, then we can know that tongues have not yet ceased either.

“Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away.”

10. 1 Corinthians 14:39 – The church is not to forbid the speaking of tongues

“Desire earnestly to prophesy and do not forbid to speak with tongues.”
