5 Things God Wants His Remnant to Know

Without a doubt, these are uncertain times for the church right now.

The rising tide of tolerance threatens to drown out the voice of biblical truth and seeks to destroy what God’s Word says about our lost condition and God’s decree for how se should live.

Sadly, some of the church has invited this tolerance in, to rule over them – bowing the knee to social pressure and cultural norms.

But there is always a remnant – a group of God’s people who stay true to His Word and faithful to His commands.

It’s not easy being part of the remnant.

It requires bold faith, courage. It demands that you stand against rapids of cultural norms and prescribed thinking.

Like Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, it means you will stand alone in a sea of peers who bow the knee; a decision that is often met with grave consequences.

The remnant must seek God for the strength to stand against the rebuke and criticism of its own; against compromising Christians who have managed to find a way to twist Scripture to justify their actions.

The remnant is small.

Jesus told us it would be: “But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.” Matthew 7:14

Are you part of the remnant? That group of faithful believers who hold to the absolute truth of God’s Word, unwavering, bold, and courageous?

That company of people who refuse to compromise and play nice with cultural norms, the social justice gospel, and Sunday morning entertainment?

Scattered abroad as we are, it can get lonely at times.

There may be times when we feel that we are truly standing alone…that we are the one and only person trying to stand against the rapids crashing against our legs – threatening to topple us at any moment.

But we don’t stand alone.

And God wants to bring us a word of encouragement and strength today.

5 Things God Wants His Remnant to Know

As we move on in our study through the book of Isaiah (Good Morning Girls – Isaiah 1-23), this week we read chapters 6-10.

Most of us are likely familiar with chapter 6, when Isaiah sees the Lord in the temple.

But the chapter quickly moves on to a message judgement against God’s people.

God’s people had turned from Him; his prophets were corrupted and the worship defiled. God was about to bring judgement.

That judgement would come as destruction on the nation of Israel through their defeat by enemy nations destroying them.

But lest that faithful remnant be utterly overcome by discouragement, God gives a faithful promise in chapter 10 to bolster their heart and remind Him that while He must discipline His people, He will faithfully restore them.

1. Continue to seek God’s face

In Isaiah 6:1-8 we read about Isaiah’s dramatic experience in the temple. God was calling Him to bring His message to the people – a warning of impending judgment and a call to repentance.

In this short passage of 8 verses, we glean so many things!

• Isaiah sought God’s face and had a revelation of who God is
• He experienced God’s holiness, his presence, and his power
• This experience left him shaken and aware of his own sinful condition
• His admission opened the door for cleansing
• The purpose of this experience was a call to ministry

And this is an experience God wants each and every one of us to have.

God wants us to have a personal experience with Him….more than once, because these experiences with Him are what set a foundation for a strong walk, an ongoing realization of who He is, and they make us resolute in our faith.

But the purpose of an experience with the Lord isn’t so that we have gooey feelings and to tell everyone about our experience.

The purpose of the experience isn’t the experience.

The purpose of an experience with the Lord is to prepare us for the ministry to which He has called us.

And make no mistake, we are all called to ministry. It may not be full-time ministry – but we are all called to call all men to repentance and to make them disciples.

2. Do not get distracted by the current events going on around you

No matter where you live on planet earth right now, this is a very real threat to every disciple who is part of the remnant.

Every country is embroiled in corruption and controversy.

But this is what God warned, in Isaiah 8:12-15:

Do not call conspiracy everything this people calls a conspiracy; do not fear what they fear, and do not dread it. The Lord Almighty is the one you are to regard as holy, he is the one you are to fear, he is the one you are to dread. He will be a holy place; for both Israel and Judah he will be a stone that causes people to stumble and a rock that makes them fall. And for the people of Jerusalem he will be a trap and a snare. Many of them will stumble; they will fall and be broken, they will be snared and captured.

Isaiah 8:12-15

God has allowed these events to happen for a purpose and a plan.

This is part of the plan; a plan which He can see from beginning to end. We only see this part of the puzzle – this very dark and confusing part.

But God sees the whole picture.

While the rest of the world is caught up in conspiracy, fear of COVID, fear about the vaccination, unrighteous anger about the injustice of politics…

The remnant must keep her focus on the holiness of God.

He is holy and He alone should be feared! “Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.” Matthew 10:28

3. Seek divine understanding of the times in which we live

In Isaiah 9:10-17 and 10:1-4, we read about God’s anger and His hand of judgment against Israel for her arrogance and pride; as well as the injustice she showed to the defenseless in her society.

The bricks have fallen down, but we will rebuild with dressed stone; the fig trees have been felled, but we will replace them with cedars.

Isaiah 9:10

God had sent the a warning, but they trusted in their own strength to rebuild with even stronger materials.

As if God’s own creation could withstand His hand of judgement.

Dear sister, we have to look past the natural disasters, the pandemic, the political corruption, the unrest and rumblings between nations….

We have to look past what we can see and discern in this physical world and ask for eyes to see what is happening in the spiritual world.

The remnant understands that what we see in the physical world is only a symptom of what is really happening in the spiritual world.

The wise discern the times, and the times are spiritually discerned.

Spiritual discernment doesn’t come from reading the news and listening to political commentary. It comes from spending time on our face, seeking God for wisdom to see what His plan and purpose is.

4. The evil we see is only a tool in God’s hand

One of the most powerful ways to eradicate the fear we feel right now with the pandemic and the political happenings around the world is to gain the fear of the Lord.

When we understand who God is and who we are in relation to God, we gain great wisdom and understanding.

When the Lord has finished all his work against Mount Zion and Jerusalem, he will say, “I will punish the king of Assyria for the willful pride of his heart and the haughty look in his eyes. For he says: ‘By the strength of my hand I have done this, and by my wisdom, because I have understanding. I removed the boundaries of nations, I plundered their treasures; like a mighty one I subdued their kings’….Does the ax raise itself above the person who swings it, or the saw boast against the one who uses it? As if a rod were to wield the person who lifts it up, or a club brandish the one who is not wood! Therefore, the Lord, the Lord Almighty, will send a wasting disease upon his sturdy warriors; under his pomp a fire will be kindled like a blazing flame.”

Isaiah 10:12-13, 15-16

God used Assyria to bring about His judgement on Israel.

However, Assyria grew arrogant in their victory and failed to realize that they were only a tool in God’s hand.

God asks, “Does the ax raise itself above the person who swings it?”

Is the tool more powerful than the one using the tool?

And because Assyria was arrogant, God turned and brought destruction on Assyria for their arrogance and denial of the power of Almighty God.

5. Remember the great promises of the Lord

In those times when fear is threatening to overwhelm us, when discouragement teases the edges of our heart, when we feel like we are all alone, we have a great treasure in God’s word.

God’s Word is filled with hundreds of promises that He has given us to strengthen and encourage us.

God didn’t just command us to be strong and courageous.

He knew that the world we live in will, at times, pose a great threat to our physical existance.

That can be intimidating!

So, He comforts and encourages us with powerful promises that we can hold on to, that will give us that courage and strength to remain strong.

And it shall come to pass in that day that the remnant of Israel,
And such as have escaped of the house of Jacob, will never again depend on him who defeated them, but will depend on the Lord, the Holy One of Israel, in truth. It shall come to pass in that day that his burden will be taken away from your shoulder, and his yoke from your neck, and the yoke will be destroyed because of the anointing oil.

Isaiah 10:20, 27

Dear sister, God hasn’t abandoned us. And no matter how dire things look right now for you personally and for us nationally and globally, it is not for our destruction.

God has a greater plan and purpose.

And that plan and purpose is always the same: to bring the world to repentance and His church to revival.

What we’re feeling right now are warnings – a warning to the world that He is coming again in power and might to take His church to be with him.

A warning to the church that He is coming, and to make herself ready.

A call to the remnant to not hunker down in fear but to go out in boldness and share the Good News to all those we can.

This is not a time for fear and intimidation; it is a time for boldness!

A Little More About Good Morning Girls and My Groups

Good Morning Girls is an online Bible study for women. Began by Courtney Joseph in her church, she took the Bible study to the Internet in 2009 and invited ladies all over America to join her in keeping each other accountable to their daily time with the Lord.

Little did she know that this Bible study would extend beyond the borders of America to literally every region of the world!!

In 2014 I joined Courtney, together with my dear friends Misty, Mandy and Bridget, in helping to lead Good Morning Girls. It has been an amazing journey as we’ve watched Good Morning Girls not only grow beyond what we could have dreamed or imagine, but we’ve had the amazing honor to see women’s lives changed by daily digging into God’s Word!

Good Morning Girls is a simple study – we simply read the Bible.

We believe that there is power in the Word of God and the Word of God alone can defeat the enemy. So we read one chapter a day 5 days a week. And we will continue this method until we’ve read through the entire Bible!!

In the summer of 2012 I opened the very first Good Morning Girls group in Croatia.

12 women, all members of my church.

I had no idea where it would lead. But by the following summer it exploded to cover the countries of Croatia, Bosnia and Serbia.
