Would you like to become a wise woman? The Bible gives us so many instructions for how we can grow wise.

That is why reading the book of Proverbs regularly is a good Christian habit.

I love grammar

I am one of those annoying people who always, quietly in my head, correct people while they’re talking. I can’t help it, and I won’t lie – bad grammar irritates me a little. But more on that another time.

I opened Proverbs 2 and saw something new that really fascinated considering that I have read it a million times already.

I’ve likely mentioned before that growing up, our family would read Psalms and Proverbs through from start to finish every month.

I kept this habit later when I left for Bible school.

How to Become a Wise Woman

So, in Chapter 1 we read:

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge

Another word for knowledge is wisdom.

But how do we become wise? This is a good question because we’re living in difficult times – not just financially (for which we do need a lot of wisdom), but we’re facing terrorism again, danger, war, violence…

We need wisdom!

In chapter two we read the answer to the question, “How can we become wise?”

Now, I have to explain a couple of things before we move on. This article is a little different. Partly because it was written in 2015 in Croatian, and I’m translating it into English. Also, I am borrowing from some of my recent posts and grabbing those keywords to lead us down a path to finding true wisdom.

I was actually pleasantly surprised to see that I very first started doing this with my Croatian ladies way back 6 years ago!!

Are you ready??

Proverbs say:

“My son, if…” (This word is very important – we cannot claim the promise in verse 5 if we do not follow through on God’s commands from verses 1-4)

If you…

  • Receive my words
  • Treasure my commands within you
  • Incline your ear to wisdom
  • Apply your heart to understanding

Yes, if you…(again, if)

  • Cry out for discernment
  • Lift up your voice for understanding

If you…

  • Seek for her as for silver
  • Search for her as for hidden treasures

then (and only then, my dear sister!)

You will understand the fear of the Lord

Find knowledge of God

Because —->>

  • The Lord gives wisdom
  • From His mouth come knowledge and understanding
  • He stores up sound wisdom for the upright
  • He is a shield to those who walk uprightly
  • He guards the paths of justice
  • Preserves the ways of His saints

Then (again):

  • You will understand righteousness and justice, equity and every good path

If…

  • When wisdom enters your heart
  • When knowledge is pleasant to your soul

Then…

  • Discretion will preserve you
  • Understanding will keep you
  • Deliver you from the way of evil
  • From the man who speaks perverse things, from those who leave the paths of uprightness to walk in the ways of darkness; who rejoice in doing evil, and delight in the perversity of the wicked; whose ways are crooked, and who are devious in their paths;
  • To deliver you from the immoral woman
  • From the seductress who flatters with her words, who forsakes the companion of her youth, and forgets the covenant of her God. For her house leads down to death, and her paths to the dead; none who go to her return, nor do they regain the paths of life—

So….(So, my dear sister!)

  • You may walk in the way of goodness
  • Keep to the paths of righteousness

For ——>>

  • The upright will dwell in the land
  • The blameless will remain in it
  • The wicked will be cut off from the earth
  • The unfaithful will be uprooted from it
Proverbs 2

Did you see what I did here? I first located the keywords: if, then, because, so… And then after those keywords you find a list of things that God:

  1. Commands
  2. Desires from us
  3. And promises us

And those are the things we need to pay attention to.

If you want to really understand the Proverbs, watch out for those keywords and what follows them.

And I promise you, you will begin fearing the Lord and walking in His wisdom!
