There is almost no busier time of year than Christmas.

I have often found it ironic that as we echo the angel’s tiding “peace on earth”, we are tangled up in knots of stress, to-do lists, and calendars overflowing with appointments.

We lay in bed at night anxious about getting the “perfect gift” for our loved ones, when the Perfect Gift has already been given.

We wear ourselves out decorating, baking, and over-planning fun things for our kids to give them the “perfect Christmas” when the perfect Christmas happened 2,000 years ago in a cold stable in Bethlehem.

We’ve been sold an idea through intricately drawn Christmas cards and romantic Hallmark movies that is nothing more than a cream puff.

All looks, no substance.

Because we’ve left out the very One that gives our celebration substance. The One this holiday is meant to celebrate!

If there were no holiday parties, church plays, gifts, cookies, lights, trees, and tinsel, we’d still have the best reason of all to celebrate.

Dear sisters, we’re not just celebrating Jesus’ birth, we’re celebrating the event that changed all of history forever.

Even our dating system changed with that event: B.C. / A.D.

It is the event that the Son of God chose to clothe himself as man, be born in the most abject poverty, grow up stigmatized as an illegitimate child, be branded a radical, and be executed as a criminal.

No god in any other religion would willingly choose this level of humiliation.

And yet God chose this so that the prophecy could be fulfilled, “Surely He has borne our griefs
and carried our sorrows…” Isaiah 53:4

Maybe this year, instead of striving for perfection we should choose rest in our relationship with the One we are truly celebrating!

For several years I have done an Advent study, and this year I’d like to invite you to join with me.

This study is in collaboration with the Good Morning Girls groups I help to co-lead; and starting with this study, I am opening up new ways to join in!

For the past 10 years I have led these studies on Facebook, but I am finding more and more women who don’t have a Facebook account.

I don’t want anyone to miss out, so below are the ways you can join us:

When:
We will start on December 3, 2023 – the first day of Advent

Where: You can Join Good Morning Girls in the Word in the following ways:

What Do I Need? You can find the FREE Advent workbook here on Women Living Well, plus Children’s Resources book if you want to do this with your children

What can I expect? Each week, we will be sharing posts by Courtney and me about the celebration of Christ and the key players in the Christmas story.

Be sure to invite your friends to join us on this very important journey of learning to rest in Christ, free from the pressures and burdens this world throws on us to create something God has already given to us for FREE!
