Are we surprised any longer when we read of a Christian teacher or leader who takes a soft stand on biblical truth, or who even begins to teach and preach things contrary to it?

In recent years we’ve seen many Christian leaders, worship leaders, singers, and Bible teachers either waffle on Biblical truth, or even entirely walk away from Christianity.

I could start listing names, but the list would be too long.

One of the areas that has become crucial for me is how strongly a teacher or pastor stands on the topic of LGBTQ.

And here is why.

God’s Word says that while all other sin is committed outside our body, immoral sins are sins against the body.

Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body.

1 Corinthians 6:18

But homosexuality and deviancy take the sin of immorality (fornication and adultery) a step further.

God created sex to be a spiritual and holy union of one man and one woman.

Full stop.

There is no room for sex to be enjoyed between anyone other than a married couple.

  • Not if you’re unmarried but very committed to one another
  • Not if you’re engaged and about to get married

Sex isn’t simply a biological union, it is a spiritual and holy union created by God. This is why Paul said it is a sin against his body.

But, homosexuality and deviancy take that holy act and pervert it.

It is a demonic perversion of what is holy, which is why church leaders must take a strong stand on this issue and clearly define where they stand.

In the early church days, after Christ returned to the Father, we find Paul horrified at the condition of the church. In Galatians, he says, “I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel.” Galatians 1:6

There was a faction in the church called the Judaizers who taught that faith in Jesus Christ alone wasn’t sufficient for justification, but that males also had to be circumcised.

He said in the book of Colossians:

Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ. For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily; and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power. In Him you were also circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the sins of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ, buried with Him in baptism, in which you also were raised with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead. And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.

Colossians 2:8-14 Emphasis Mine

They were convincing enough that the early church was falling under their teaching; which is why Paul penned these letters to the churches, arguing that the Judaizers were preaching a false gospel.

“But even if we or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to  you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed.” Galatians 1:8

Beware of the Modern-Day Judaizers

The church is being hammered by modern-day Judaizers.

No, they don’t preach circumcision and Old Testament law as a means for complete justification; in fact, just the opposite.

Today’s “Judaizers” preach tolerance and modern social justice.

This teaching has been slowly taking over the pulpit for the past couple of decades and is no longer silently whispering its doctrine, it is shouting it from the pulpits.

And now we have an entire generation of Christians who believe that unless you are tolerant of the LGBTQ community and vocal about social justice, you are a XINO (Christian In Name Only).

No, you’re worse than a XINO, you are a bigoted, uncaring, white-privileged, evangelical fundamentalist.

They would have us believe that our faith is proven and validated by our acceptance of alternative lifestyles, or at the very least tolerance to them, and our vocal support of modern social justice.

And I say modern social justice because social justice today doesn’t resemble the social justice we see in the Civil Laws of the Old Testament. And I 100% stand for that kind of justice!

O foolish church, who has bewitched you?

I want to echo Paul’s words: “Who has bewitched you that you should not obey the truth?” Galatians 3:1

“Now this I say lest anyone should deceive you with persuasive words. Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ.” Colossians 2:4, 8

The level of our dedication to Christ, our justification, and our level of sanctification are not validated by our level of tolerance or alignment with social justice causes.

Our justification and sanctification rest in Christ’s blood alone.

Then our Christian walk is further lived out by grace on a day-to-day basis with the Word of God as our foundation.

If we seek to justify our faith in Christ through political correctness, tolerance, and social justice – just so the world will see that we are not the white-privileged fundamentalists they think we are, we have come under a new kind of law that trumps God’s Word.

This law demands that God’s Word bow the knee to its message.

This law demands that we morph our theology to the issue at hand.

Will we begin in the Spirit and be made perfect in the flesh?

If we truly believe that we are saved by grace alone…

If we truly believe that faith in the work of Jesus Christ and His shed blood is sufficient for justification, why then would we believe that tolerance and social justice are needed to validate our justification?

Why then do we believe that anything we can do in our flesh would further add to this miraculous work of the Holy Spirit in our lives?

“For as many as are of the works of the law are under a curse; for it is written, ‘Cursed is everyone who does not continue in all things which are written in the book of the law, to do them….Christ as redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us.” Galatians 3:10, 13 – Emphasis mine

Are we willing to suffer persecution?

Paul argues with this very sobering statement:

As many as desire to make a good showing in the flesh, these would compel you to be circumcised, only that they may not suffer persecution for the cross of Christ. For not even those who are circumcised keep the law, but they desire to have you circumcised that they may boast in your flesh.” Galatians 6:12-13

This has been the driving force behind the church embracing political correctness, tolerance, and social justice causes.

And this is why modern-day Judaizers push back against those Christians who refuse to fall in line because they don’t want to be seen as a part of a group of religious fundamentalists.

They want to be recognized as being inclusive and embracing.

But true Christianity isn’t inclusive. Christ cannot embrace those things that violate His standard of holiness. The Bible isn’t a social justice handbook – not in today’s definition of social justice.

The question is this: Are we willing to suffer persecution from the world, and the segment of the church pressuring us to embrace their message?

Are we willing to stand on the Word of God and let it determine our message and our cause?

Or will we be entangled again with the yoke of bondage that demands we change our message, our belief system, and our worldview just so they can boast in our tolerance and inclusiveness?

Just so we can have a seat at the table of the “in” group?

“But God forbid that I should boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.” Galatians 6:14

  1. It is high time Christians take a stand for the truth according to gospel not according to denominational creeds, beliefs and sugarcoated doctrines regardless of societal appeals????.

This is a generation who don’t want to hear the truth or even check the scriptures to see if what they are taught match up.

The WORD is for correction, reproof, doctrine…. It is the life of every believer.

Keep the fire burning, sister .

  2. I have mixed feelings.

How ARE we to bring people to Christ who are lgbtq if we are harsh and judgmental? Why is this the issue so many focus solely on and not people who gossip, lie, have children out of wedlock? Are those not all just as sinful? My understanding is that all sin is equal in God’s eyes, whether it’s someone who is gay or someone who is cheating on a spouse or someone who’s committed murder.

I DO get what you’re saying — I agree it’s a sin. But how do we bring lgbtq people to God without being at least somewhat inclusive?

  3. Very solid position. We as Christians need to stand for the word of God where it does say that homosexuals will not inherit the kingdom of God (1 Corinthians 6:9-10). But we can rejoice in verse 11 where it says, “such were some of you; but you were washed…in the name of Jesus Christ.”

We don’t judge them for they already stand judged by God. We love them and preach Christ to them. Christ died for them like he died for all sinners, myself included.

  4. This is a startlingly perspicacious evaluation of a present danger in the body. I have just been told that the majority of people want gay marriage to be accepted by the Church of England together with the constant broadcast of something called Jewish Voice which urges Christian’s to go back on their commitment to Christ and use the Jewish calendar and feast days. I never comprehended that the absolute obsession with social and racial justice among certain Christian could be seen as Judaising and what St Paul deemed to be another gospel. I understand this now perfectly thanks to what you have written, I am also deeply disturbed by people who want to alter the appearance of Jesus in favour of their own race and even deny the fact that God is male and OurFather . Race now preoccupies these believers and often no other race save the black race. I wonder what will come of this . History is being rewritten as well as the biblical tradition and legends myths and stories stand in place of how God really came to us in a definite milieu and at a verifiable time. If we deny this or add to this in any way we lose the gift of salvation. His own received Him not…but to those who received Him… God has left us law to be observed regarding behaviour and if even the Church says what is evil can be taken as good and what is good classed as evil then the Antichrist has arisen for they will deny that Christ has come in the flesh. What exactly this means has been perfectly delineated in discussion like yours and mine. God be merciful to us all and maybe it is better to light one candle than curse the darkness.
