Have you fallen into sin lately and are struggling with shame and guilt?
Maybe it’s something you did in your past that you’ve never been able to get over.
Perhaps you’ve been away from God for a while, and you feel unworthy to come back to the Lord.
If you read Hebrews 11 – the “Hall of Faith”, you’ll find some very interesting characters.
The men and women listed were deeply flawed and imperfect people.
The examples of powerful men and women of faith we see in Scripture are men and women who fell – some who fell hard.
And yet, God forgave them…. and the honored their trust in His goodness.
We cannot earn God’s forgiveness. That is a free gift.
In Nehemiah 8 we see that the walls of Jerusalem are built and Ezra stands to read the Law of the Lord to the children of Israel who have returned from exile.
Many of them were about to hear the Law for the first time.
As Ezra reads, they begin to weep and mourn. They realize how far they had strayed from God’s commands.
This became a day of repentance and restoration from God.
In verse 10, Nehemiah says these very important words:
Do not sorrow, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.
Many times, we can get lost in our sorrow, as if the depth of our sorrow proves to God just how sorry we are.
God knows our hearts. We don’t need to prove to Him anything.
Our tears cannot atone for our sins. But His blood can! And that is a reason to rejoice, not sorrow.
Here are 10 Bible verses for when you fall into sin.
When we’ve fallen into sin, God wants us to remember that as long as we are breathing, there is forgiveness for our sins.
He will forgive. He will restore. He will receive us back with joy and love!
1. 1 John 1:9
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
2. Proverbs 28:13
He who covers his sins will not prosper, but whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy.
3. Psalm 51:10
Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.
4. James 5:16
Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.
5. Romans 8:1
There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.
6. 1 Corinthians 10:13
No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.
7. Psalm 103:12
As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us.
8. Isaiah 1:18
Come now, and let us reason together,” says the Lord, “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall be as wool.”
9. Ephesians 4:32
And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.
10. Micah 7:18-19
Who is a God like You, pardoning iniquity and passing over the transgression of the remnant of His heritage? He does not retain His anger forever, because He delights in mercy. He will again have compassion on us, and will subdue our iniquities. You will cast all our sins into the depths of the sea.
