When life feels hopeless, where do you turn?
Maybe you’ve been praying for something to change…
But nothing has.
Maybe you’re carrying grief.
Disappointment.
Financial pressure.
Or you’re simply exhausted from fighting the same battle over and over again.
When we can’t see a way forward, it’s easy to believe nothing will ever change.

Naomi knew exactly what that felt like.
By the beginning of the book of Ruth, she’d lost nearly everything.
✔️ Her husband.
✔️ Her sons.
✔️ Her future.
Yet instead of walking away from God, she made two simple decisions that completely changed the direction of her life.
I think they can change ours, too.
Naomi hadn’t planned this life.
Years earlier, a famine drove her family from Bethlehem into Moab.
There she lost her husband.
Then both of her sons died.
Suddenly, she found herself an aging widow in a foreign land with no one left to provide for her.
From a human perspective, her future looked hopeless.
But instead of giving up…
She turned toward God.
What Naomi Did When Everything Felt Hopeless
Hopeless seasons reveal where we’ve placed our trust.
Some people walk away from God when life falls apart.
Naomi did the opposite.
She took two simple steps.
1. Return to the One Who Can Truly Satisfy
Many of us try to soothe empty souls with things that were never meant to nourish us.
- Entertainment.
- Food.
- Busyness.
- Relationships.
- Even sleep.
They may distract us for a while.
But they cannot restore us.
Only Jesus can do that.
“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
Naomi knew where her nourishment was, and she was willing to say goodbye to the only two women who held the last remnants of her ties to her family.
Saying goodbye to them meant saying goodbye to the last connection she had with her babies.
But she was willing to do this in order to find the nourishment she needed for her body and spirit.
2. Return to the Community God Has Given You
Grief has a strange way of making us withdraw.
Ironically, it’s often the moment we most need community that we’re most tempted to isolate ourselves.
Naomi could have remained in Moab.
She could have hidden from everyone who knew her.
Instead…
She went home.
That couldn’t have been easy.
She returned as a widow.
Childless.
Poor.
Broken.
Yet Bethlehem welcomed her.
Sometimes healing begins with the courage to let people walk beside us.
Notice something.
God didn’t change Naomi’s circumstances overnight.
He changed the direction of her story.
Beautiful.
If You’re Feeling Hopeless Today…
Take one small step.
Return to Jesus.
Return to His Word.
Return to the people God has placed around you.
Hopelessness tells us nothing will ever change.
The book of Ruth reminds us that God often begins changing our future with one small step of faith.
Naomi couldn’t see what God was doing.
Neither can we.
But the God who restored Naomi is still writing stories of redemption today.

I absolutely love what you wrote. You pulled things out that I never thought of <3
Definitely bringing more realness to the story
Praise God for His faithfulness to us.
