Does it seem to you that the older you become, the faster time seems to go by? When I was a little girl, it seemed like 10 years between two Christmases, but now it feels like 10 days.

With each passing year, the desire to hang on to every moment grows in ever-growing intensity.

This isn’t a modern idea rooted in humanism. We find this idea right in the Bible… repeatedly.

God’s Word talks about redeeming the time, numbering our days, and the shortness of our time here on earth.

God wants us to be aware of the swiftness of passing time so that we maximize the time we have here on earth.

There is no greater or more insidious time robber than our phones.

A decade or so ago, we may have said TV was a great time robber, but at least families tended to watch TV together.

However, when each family member is on their phone, they may be physically together, but in every other way, they are distant from one another.

It is not lost on me how social media promised to bring us together, and yet our culture is suffering from deep and pervasive loneliness.

Precious moments, hours, days, months, and years are being lost while we doomscroll. And we have nothing to show for that wasted time.

We need to begin redeeming the time.

In my latest book, “Distracted Disciples: How Christian Women Can Gain Control Over Their Social Media“, I share about my own struggle to win the victory over social media so I could redeem the time I have left on earth.

And I’m not just redeeming the time so I can have precious memories.

Memories are only as precious as long as those who have experienced them are alive. Once we have all passed on to eternity, those memories no longer have the value they once did—if any value at all.

As disciples of Jesus Christ, we are redeeming the time for God’s kingdom!

I am redeeming the time by discipling my children.

I am redeeming the time by investing in my neighbors.

I am redeeming the time by leading women into a greater walk with Christ.
