Do you struggle with concentrating on your devotions?
Is prayer more of a battle to collect your thoughts than a conversation with Jesus?
I am convinced that this culture battles distractions unlike any other culture in human history. We are absolutely bombarded with visual and audible media in so many forms; it’s impossible to escape them.
And its temptation has risen to a very sinister level.
The advancement of AI in the past year and a half has gone from helpful to horrifying at lightning speed, as Grok introduces raunchy AI companions.
Before Paul’s challenge for redeeming the time in Ephesians 5, he urges believers to put away from them all unclean behavior, walk in the light of the Lord, and expose the works of darkness.
Then, he says, “See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil.”

The mark of a true disciple of Jesus Christ is to do what Paul said in verse 1, “Be imitators of God, as dear children.”
A child imitates his parents’ behaviors.
And we are to imitate God, in that we ask ourselves what Jesus would do in certain situations and follow His example.
While Jesus ate with sinners and called uncouth fishermen and unsavory tax collectors to be His disciples, He did not imitate their behavior or their language.
Their habits did not become His habits.
The opposite is true: Jesus’ disciples sought to imitate His behavior, His language, and His habits.
It is foolish to imitate the world. It is foolish to allow the world’s language to become our language and the world’s habits to become our habits.
When we do, we become like the 3 bad soils Jesus talked about in Matthew 13, as sin and worldly behavior begin to crowd in and cause our hearts to become packed down with the stuff of this world.
That is why we need to continually allow God’s Word to dig down in our hearts so that the soil of our hearts is:
- Plowed up
- Cleaned out
- And weeded
Then the seed of God’s Word can bring forth abundant fruit.
30-Day Prayer Challenge for Redeeming the Time
One practice that I’m working on improving in my own prayer life is praying scripture.
The Word of God has great power, but somehow I think that if we would choose to pair prayer up with scripture and actually pray scripture in situations and circumstances of our lives, it would be like a shot of nitro to our prayers!
Praying the Word of God is an exciting and effective way to pray!
As I have prepared for these prayer challenges, I have found exciting scriptures to target specific areas of our Christian walk.
In this 30-Day Prayer Challenge for Redeeming the Time, you will find a Bible verse or passage for each day that will help you gain a heart of wisdom as you grow intentional about how you life your life.
To use this workbook, you will read the given verse or passage from the day and write out an observation about that verse or passage.
Then you will write out a prayer to the Lord, using the verse or passage for that day as a guide.
Using God’s Word as a guide for our prayers is such a powerful tool.
It is also a powerful weapon, combining the sword of the Spirit and the weapon of prayer into one atomic weapon against the enemy who seeks to destroy us.
